A useful tax conversation starts with accurate context. This guide helps you prepare for a discussion; it does not determine your filing requirements or recommend a particular tax position.
Start with the entity and activities
Describe the organization, the work it performs, and any changes since the last filing period. Bring questions about changes in ownership, location, or operations.
Organize the available records
Locate prior filings and relevant financial records. Make a separate list of what is incomplete or unavailable so your adviser can explain the effect on scope and timing.
Separate preparation from representation
Ask whether the engagement covers advice, preparation, submission, or dealing with an agency on your behalf. Do not assume one includes the others.
Surface notices and deadlines early
Read the notice and identify its stated response date. Bring the full document through an agreed secure channel. Do not assume a consultation appointment pauses a deadline.
Leave with named responsibilities
Confirm the next documents needed, who provides them, who approves the work, and what happens after submission. Keep agreed responsibilities in writing.
